It is widely mined and utilised as a fertiliser as well as a primary ingredient in a variety of plaster, blackboard/sidewalk chalk, and drywall products. Many cultures, notably Ancient Egypt, have employed alabaster, a large fine-grained white or barely coloured type of gypsum, for sculpting.

Wear goggles, a mask, gloves, and a disposable apron when working with gypsum. You don't have to shake or brush it off your clothes since you're wearing an apron. In windy weather, avoid applying gypsum since it is more likely to blow in your face. Finally, keep it out of reach of youngsters at all times.
