In class phaeophyceae the pigments chlorophyll a and C, carotenoids and xanthophyll present which gives it brown colour whereas in rhodophycea the pigments present are r-phycoerythrin, r-phycocyanin, chlorophyll-a and chlorophyll-d which impart red colour to them.
