Complete answer:There are almost 80 different species of mangrove forests. In India, the largest cover of Mangroves forest is in West Bengal. Sundri is a well-known species of mangrove forests which also goes by the name of Heritiera fomes. It is an endangered species and is a major timber producing tree. It is majorly found in the Sundarbans after which it has been named. The Sundarbans is an area of mangrove forests that spans from West Bengal to some parts of Bangladesh located at the delta formed by the rivers of the Brahmaputra, Ganga, and Meghna rivers in the Bay of Bengal. There are four protected areas in the Sundarbans of which one is Sundarban National Park which covers an area of 513.6 sq. miles. The area covered by the Sundarbans Mangrove forests is 10,000 sq. km. of which 4,260 sq. km is in West Bengal and the rest is in Bangladesh. The most abundant mangrove tree species are sundri and gewa. 26 different species of mangrove trees grow in Sundarbans. The wood of sundri is used for building houses, making boats, furniture, and other things as it is hardwood.
