Sri Krishnadevaraya Andhra Bhasha Nilayam, nearly a century old building is one of the oldest non-Government libraries in Telangana which started on 1st September 1901 in Nizam’s dominion during Telugu Desam Party rule. There are more than 40,000 odd books, old newspapers and magazines in the library and is considered to be a golden spot for Telugu literature. Sri Krishnadevaraya Andhra Bhasha Nilayam is looked after by Government of Andhra Pradesh and many famous personalities since its inauguration such as Munagala Raja, Nayani Venkata Ranga Rao, Komarraju Lakshmana Rao, Pardhasarathi Apparao Bahadur of Palwancha, Suravaram Pratapa Reddy, Madapati Hanumantha Rao, Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, Adiraju Veerabhadra Rao and Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy.
During the rule of Nizam Osman Ali Khan, Urdu was held primary and an act was passed which led to the prohibition of meetings and gatherings of people as Telugu language seemed to be a threat but inside Sri Krishnadevaraya Andhra Bhasha Nilayam complex, in the name of sharing cultural details and literary events, such meetings were continued to increase awareness among people and to spread richness and versatility of Telugu and later on, this resulted into movements against Nizam’s rule. Sri Krishnadevaraya Andhra Bhasha Nilayam celebrated its silver jubilee in 1927, golden jubilee in 1952 with Burgula Ramakrishna Rao as its Chief Minister and its centenary in 2001.
This institution was named to honor the great ruler of Vijayanagara Empire. Initially, Ranga Rao began publishing cheap Telugu booklets for the purpose of revolutionizing the Telugu speakers in the region.

Note:
This institution, Sri Krishnadevaraya Andhra Bhasha Nilayam, started with a rented building and later owned its own building with the help of donation from Lakshmi Narsamma, wife of Ravichettu Ranga Rao, an amount of ₹ 3000 in 1906.
