Malanjkhand also referred to as Malanjkhand Copper Project(MCP) is an open-pit copper mine in India. The copper mine is situated near the town of Malanjkhand which is 90 kilometres northeast of Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. It falls on the way to Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh State, in the Tehsil of Bihar, which is 22 kilometres (14 mi) from the project. As it is situated in the district of Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, it is also referred to as Balaghat Copper Mines. It is situated in the vicinity of the Kanha National Park. It's India's largest base metal mine.
There is a prominent Closepet sequence of the Dharwarian formation. It is the key source of copper for the Malanjkhand Copper plant operating there. Other important mineral sources present in Malanjkhand are copper, quartzite, copper pyrite and manganese rocks. It's home to about 10,000 people. MCP, although small, is found to have social communities from all parts of India such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Bengal, Bihar, Andhra, and others. They have classes that are more popularly referred to as Samaj.
