There are two sorts of canal:
Aqueducts- water system canals that are used for the conveyance and delivery of potable water for human consumption, municipal uses, and agriculture irrigation.

The maximum part of the entire irrigated area of the country by canals is in Uttar Pradesh . Other major states where irrigation is completed by canals are Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh , Haryana, Punjab and Bihar.
