Hint: The historic ‘Purna Swaraj’ was passed by the Indian national Congress in 1929. The term means complete independence. Purna Swaraj was declared because some cause of disharmony had risen between the Congress leaders and the British government.

Complete answer:
The Purna Swaraj was a public declaration that was made in the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress in 1929. In 1929 the British Viceroy, Lord Irwin declared that Indian would be granted dominion status which was known as the Irwin Declaration. The Indians were very happy with this announcement because this is what they had been wanting for a long time.

This declaration by Lord Irwin faced severe criticisms in England and under pressure Lord Irwin met Jinnah, Mahatma Gandhi and others that it would not be possible to implement the promise of dominion status soon. This caused a great anger among the Congress leaders and in the Lahore Session, they gave a call for Purna Swaraj or complete independence. This movement made it clear the economic, cultural and political oppression which the British government was inflicting upon the people. This session also reinforced that it will carry out the Civil Disobedience movement.

Therefore, option B is the right answer.

Note: The Purna Swaraj made it very clear to the British government that this time freedom was asked as a form of justice and not in the form of charity. The date 26th January was chosen for the Constitution of India to come into effect. This was done in honour to mark the date of the declaration of Purna Swaraj.
