Hint: Circle is a geometric shape. It is defined as the set of all points that are at a fixed distance from a point called the center of the circle. We encounter innumerable objects around us that are of the shape of a circle. Now, we shall draw a circle using geometric instruments such as a protractor and a scale.
Complete step by step solution:
In order to draw a circle using a protractor and a scale, we must have prior knowledge of using such geometric instruments as well as basic properties of a circle. We know that the radius of a circle is half of the diameter of the circle in measurement. Here, we are given the measurement of the diameter of the circle equal to 7cm.
This implies that the radius of the circle $=\dfrac{7}{2}cm$
$\Rightarrow radius=3.5cm$
A protractor has two legs. One of them is pointed whereas the other leg has accommodation for attaching a pencil. We shall first set the sharp-pointed pencil and open the legs of the protractor equal to 3.5cm with precision measuring with the help of scale.
Then, we will mark a point on the drawing paper as the center of circle, O. Placing the pointed end of the protractor on point O, we will rotate the other leg of the protractor to finally draw the circle.
Further, we will join two opposite points of the circle to draw the diameter of the circle and mark that as AB. To draw a chord of the circle, we can join any two points on the circumference of the circle which are not diametrically opposite.
Therefore, the final diagram can be drawn in two ways which is as follows where diameters are AB and CD and the chords are AD, AC, BC and BD.
Note: There are various components of the circle. Diameter of a circle is defined as a line segment which joins two exactly opposite points of a circle whereas a chord is a line segment which joins any two points of a circle. The only difference between diameter and chord is that diameter passes through the center of the circle whereas chord does not pass through the center of the circle.
