Weather refers to the particular state of atmosphere at any given point of time.The Himalayas have a deep impact on the climate of the Indian subcontinent and the Tibetian Plateau. In Spite of the moderating influences of the Himalayas, variations are experienced in humidity, temperature and precipitation. This is due to several factors such as latitude, altitude, pressure and wind system, the distance from the sea, relief and ocean currents. For example: In India the state of Rajasthan experiences a temperature of 50 degree celsius around summer whereas at the same time in Jammu and Kashmir the temperature may be around 20 degree celsius. During winter the temperature in Dras which is the coldest place in India in the state of Jammu and Kashmir experiences a temperature of -13 degree celsius whereas a place near the sea like Thirivananthapuram in Kerala is 30 degree celsius in winter.
The Himalayas stand tall and prevent the cold,frigid and dry wind from Central Asia from blowing into India. Due to this reason South Asia and its neighbouring areas remain warm compared to the other temperate regions in the continents. It also creates a barrier so that the monsoon winds do not escape and causes heavy rainfall in the Tarai region. The Himalayas are of great importance to India. The Himalayas have been of great defence for India. They protect India from the enemies and from invaders outside. Thus serving as a defence barrier. Almost all rivers in India originate from the Himalayas. These rivers are a perennial source of water,which means they are snow fed and have water all year around.
