Hint: We have to keep the selection of clothes in such a manner that even in case of any mis-happening in the laboratory, the damage should be minimized to the person working inside the lab. Hence, the clothes should be such that they could, if not able to help in minimizing the damage, then should at least not catalyze in inflicting damage.

Complete answer: Whenever working in a laboratory, one should always be aware of what could be the potential threats. And most important of them all are fire and heat release from the chemicals/acids.
Hence, if one is working in a laboratory, they should wear clothes that at least do not melt on heating. Synthetic clothes are the ones which melt on heating around a fire. Hence, if anyone is wearing those types of clothes in the lab, there are chances that if by any accident, the slab on which she is working on catches fire, then her clothes too will get heated up from the fire nearby from the slab and thus can get melted. If they melt, they would stick to the body and would injure her. Hence, it is advised to wear clothes made out of natural fiber such as cotton clothes.

Note:
Clearly, it is not just a fire outbreak that could melt synthetic clothes, small sources of heat such as Bunsen burner too carry enough heat in it that it can potentially melt the synthetic clothes’ fiber and can cause great deal of injury to the person wearing them. Hence it is advised to wear cotton clothes or clothes made from other natural fibre.
