It was a movement of peasants against high taxes imposee by the Government of Mewar. Two years later, an agreement was created among Rajasthan Sewa Sangh (a farmer's union) and Rawat Sawai anup singh ji but the same was opposed by government saying it a "Bolshevik agreement" and the government appointed a government employee replacing Thikanedar under its 'Munsarmat policy'. Government sent the Trench commission to inquire about the demands of the Bengun movement. Mr. Trench, who was the head of the commission, justified almost all taxes except small taxes. Afterwards on July 13' 1923, Mr. Trench then opened fire after lathicharge on a non-violent assembly of farmers. Two farmers, Rupaji and Kripaji, had been killed. They are even now remembered as the martyrs of Begun in the history of Rajasthan.
