Hint: In this question apply the concept that if x kg onions cost is y rupees then the 1kg onions rupees is $\dfrac{y}{x}$, so use this property to get the solution of the question.
It is given that 7 kg onions cost 140 rupees.
Therefore 1 kg onions cost is, we have to divide 140 rupees to 7.
Therefore 1 kg onions cost $ = \dfrac{{140}}{7} = 20$ rupees.
Now we have to find out the cost of 12 kg onions.
So we have to multiply the cost of 1kg onions to 12 kg onions
Therefore the cost of 12 kg onions
$ \Rightarrow \left( {20 \times 12} \right) = 240$ rupees.
So 240 rupees is the required answer.
Note: In such types of questions the key concept we have to remember is that first find the cost of 1kg onions then find out the cost of 12 kg onions by multiplying the cost of 1kg onions, we will get the required cost of 12 kg onions which is the required answer.
