Idris had ‘c’ toy cars. Fadl has twice as many cars as Idris. Baasim has three more cars than Fadl. Write down an expression, in terms of ‘c’, for the total number of cars the three children have. Give your answer in its simplest form.

Now we have to represent the total number of cars in terms of ‘c’.
So, we can observe that the number of cars can be related to each other as,
Number of cars Fadl has is twice as that number of cars Idris has and the number of cars Baasim has is three more than that of what Fadl has.
So,
Number of cars of Fadl = $2\times $ Number of cars of Idris.
Now as we know that Idris has ‘c’ number of toys which is already given in the question.
So, number of cars of Fadl = $2\times c=2c.............(i)$
Now as we know,
Number of cars of Baasim = Number of cars of Fadl + 3
Substituting the value of number of cars of Fadl, i.e., ‘2c’ (from equation (i)), so
Number of cars of Baasim = 2c+3
Hence, the number of cars of Idris, Fadl and Baasim is c, 2c, 2c+3 respectively.
So, the total number of cars the three children has is represented as,
Total = c+2c+c+3 = (5c+3)
So, the simplest form of representation for the total number of cars the children are having is (5c+3).
