Matters are classified on the basis of physical classification or chemical classification. On the basis of physical classification matter is classified into: solid, liquid and gases.
Solid are the substances which have definite volume and definite shape, whereas liquid are the substances which have definite shape but do not have a definite volume, whereas gases are the substances which neither have a definite shape nor have a definite volume.
On the basis of the chemical classification matter is classified into homogeneous or heterogeneous.
If a material has uniform composition throughout then it is known as homogeneous mixture and if a material has several compositions then it is known as heterogeneous mixture.
