Hint- To solve this question let Govind’s present age = y years and Gopal’s age = x years. Then using given information we will create 2 linear equations. then we can find x and y by solving both equations.
Complete step-by-step answer:
As we are given i.e. Gopal is elder by 4 years to Govind.
$ \Rightarrow y + 4 = x............\left( 1 \right)$
Now after 16 years-
Gopal’s age will be thrice his present age and Govind will be five times of his present age.
$ \Rightarrow 16 + x = 3x{\text{ and y + 16 = 5y}}$
Or 16 = 2x and 4y = 16
Therefore, x = 8 and y = 4
Hence, Gopal’s age is 8 years.
$ \Rightarrow $ Option B is correct.
Note- As we assumed 2 variables in the question i.e. x and y, we can also use only one variable lets say x and x + 4. Also one must know how to convert the statement into a mathematical equation so that we can get the required result.
