Hint:Metallic iron can be extricated from iron ore economically. Usually, iron ores are rocks and minerals. Iron oxides are present abundantly in iron ores. Iron ore also varies in color from dark grey to bright yellow or from rusty red to deep purple.
Complete answer:
The four types of iron ores that can be found in India are
1.Magnetite
2.Hematite
3.Limonite
4.Siderite
1.Magnetite iron ore is found in the Dharwad and Cuddapah rock systems of peninsular India. This iron ore is reddish in color and contains 70% of metallic content. 80% of the reserves of hematite ore are found in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh Orissa, and Andhra Pradesh, and in the western portion, it is found in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa.
2.Magnetite iron ores is black in color and contain around 60 to 70% metallic content. They are also found in Dharwad and Cuddapah systems. This iron ore has a magnetic quality and is found in States like Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
3.Limonite iron ore is yellowish in color and contains about 40 to 60% iron metal. This iron ore is found in the series in the Raniganj coalfield, Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, Garhwal in Uttarakhand, and Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh.
4.Siderite iron ore is an inferior quality iron ore and contains less than 40% of iron. Siderite iron ore contains many impurities and its mining is not economically variable, but due to the presence of lime, it is self-fluxing.
Note: Among the four types of iron ores that are found in India, hematite iron ore and magnetite iron ore are the two most important iron ores in India. In India, Karnataka has more than half of the reserves of magnetite ore.
