Hint: Fibres improve digestion and have healthy effects on the body. It provides roughage which is important for the digestive system and bowel system.

Complete answer:
Fibers are one of the crucial nutrients which is helpful in the digestion of foods, these fibers are not digested themselves. It is mainly helpful in the egestion of undigested substances because of this reason it is said to take fibre rich food items. Fibers remove the toxic substances from the body making a clean and healthy digestive system. Not only this a sense of fullness occurs after eating fibre rich food. Food items rich in fiber are also rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Examples of fibre rich food items are Grains (whole grains, breads, and cereals), brown rice, pulses (lentils, beans, and peas), brans, nuts, seeds, fruits and green leafy vegetables. Dietary fibers are also called roughage. Roughage comes from the plant products in our food. The main function of roughage is not to provide any form of nutrients to our body, rather it helps in getting rid of the amount of undigested food. When roughage reaches the large intestine it is broken down by a gut bacterium or exists from the body in the stool.

There are two types of fibers: 1. Soluble fibers 2. Insoluble fibers Soluble fiber absorbs water and transform into a gel like which allows gut bacteria to break it down easily. They are present in oats, citrus fruits which low the glucose level and cholesterol in the body whereas insoluble fiber are more rigid which do not absorb water and it adds bulk to stools. Fruits and vegetables contain high amounts of insoluble fibers.

Note: Eating less fibre containing food can cause digestive issues like constipation and dysbiosis which is the abnormal growth of harmful bacteria. And it also leads to colon cancer and obesity.
