The northern plains of India do not freeze in winter.

-The main traits of the climate of the Northern plains is that it experiences extremes of temperature in the months of summer and winter.
- The northern plains is a riverine region, enriched with fertile soil, favourable climate, flat surface providing feasible the construction of roads and railways, and slow moving rivers. All these factors have made this plain very significant.
- The Northern Plain is at a lower altitude which makes the temperature high throughout the year. As cold winds are obstructed by the Himalayas , the temperature also rises.
The Northern Plains are near to the equator as compared to the Himalayas. This adds to the rise in temperature within the region as the rays of the sun fall more parallel in this region as compared to the Himalayas. Because of several aspects that add to the increase of temperature within the region , snowfall is not possible here .
Though the North Eastern part of India faces the coldest season among the states in the Northern Plain , still temperature does not decline to such a level for snowfall to happen.
