Hampi is a world heritage site that belongs to the medieval Hindu times, back when it was the kingdom of the Vijayanagar empire of Karnataka.
The architecture of the ancient city of, Hampi was very distinctive from the others in several ways:
- Hampi was an ancient and very well-fortified city in the state of Karnataka. There was no trace of mortar or even the use of cementing agents found in the buildings and architectures of Hampi or even in the construction of the walls. The technique that they had followed was to wedge them together through the process of interlocking.
- The buildings which were located in the royal complex of Hampi had very splendid arches, halls with huge pillars and domes which had niches for holding sculptures.
- The people in Hampi also had meticulously planned orchards and various pleasure gardens with sculptures and motifs, like the lotus and the corbels during that time.
