Hemo or hemato are terms related to blood. Blood is constantly circulating fluid. It provides nutrition, oxygen, and waste removal in the body. Blood performs several functions within the body like supplying oxygen to tissues, supplying nutrients, regulating body temperature, coagulation etc.
Blood made up of liquid and solids. It is about 80% of water and 20% of solid. The liquid part is called plasma, is made up of water, salts, and proteins. The cells and proteins present in blood make it thicker. Major part of blood consists of plasma. The solid part of blood contains red blood cells ( RBC’s ) which carries oxygen to the tissues, these are also called as erythrocytes, Where as white blood cells ( WBC’s ) fights infection, these are also called as leukocytes and platelets – these are smaller cells that help blood to clot. Platelets are also called as thrombocytes
The colour of blood is red due to the presence of protein haemoglobin, which contains a red coloured compound called heme.
Note: Blood is a transport liquid pumped by the heart to all the parts of the body. Blood is both tissue and a fluid. It is a tissue because it has similar specialized cells that have particular functions. If blood flow stops, death occurs within minutes because of an unfavourable environment on highly susceptible cells.
