Hint: We know that square is a two-dimensional figure. It has four sides of the same length. We should know that the perimeter is the sum of all sides. Thus let’s assume s be the side of the square. To find the perimeter we will add all the sides of the square. And then check from the options.
Complete step-by-step solution:
Suppose given below is a square.
This square has all the sides same and are measured as to be “s”
Now the perimeter of any figure or any polygon is the sum of all the sides. So the perimeter of the above square is given by,
Perimeter=s+s+s+s
Now when we have all the variables of same type we can add them as,
Perimeter=4s
Thus, this is the perimeter of the square above.
Now if “s” is replaced simply by “side” we get,
Perimeter= $4\times$side
Thus, option D is the correct option.
Note: Note that, there is a difference between perimeter and area. For any figure we can say a two-dimensional figure perimeter is the sum of all sides of that figure or shape. But there is a fixed formula to find the area of the shape.
Like for a square the formula for the area of a square is given by the square of the side that is \[sid{e^2}\].
Area is the space occupied by the shape. Perimeter is used in problems related to fencing, boundaries etc.
