Hint:Cotton is a fiber that is soft, fluffy, and grows around the seeds of the cotton plant in the form of balls. The fiber that grows is used for spinning into yarn or thread and used to make soft, breathable textile. The process is done in cotton mills.

Complete answer:For growing cotton the most suitable soil is black soil. It is rich in montmorillonite and beidellite groups of clay minerals and is also known as black cotton soil. The soil is also suitable for the cultivation of crops like wheat, jowar, tobacco, chilies. The reason it is most suitable for growing cotton is because of its clayey nature as cotton cultivation requires high moisture retention. This soil is very high grained and dark, it contains a high proportion of magnesium and calcium carbonates. When the soil is wet it is very tenacious of moisture and becomes exceedingly sticky. It is poor in phosphorus, nitrogen, and organic matter but has a high abundance of iron, magnesia, lime, and alumina. It is mostly found in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chattisgarh, and extends to the south along the Godavari and Krishna valleys.

Note:The cultivation of cotton requires a long frost-free period, plenty of sunshine, and a rainfall of around 60 to 120 cm. Large production of cotton is done in areas with less rainfall but obtain the water from irrigation.
