Hint:The valence electrons are the electrons present in the outer shell of the atom. The valence electrons are responsible for the formation of chemical bonds between the two elements. The valence electrons can be determined with the help of a periodic table.

The number element represents the number of protons present in the nucleus of that element. In the periodic table seven rows are present which are known as periods, the columns are called groups which contain elements comprising similar chemical properties. Group 17 contains halogen atoms and group 18 contains noble gases. Total 118 elements are present in the periodic table.
In the periodic table elements are present in the box where above the symbol of atom, the atomic number is written and below the symbol atomic mass is written.

The Group 1 atoms have 1 valence electron.

For example carbon is a group 4 element, so the valence electrons in the carbon atom is 4.
