(a) Hypothalamus hormones: hypophysis - Gonadotropin-releasing, thyrotropin-releasing, growth hormone-releasing, somatostatin-releasing corticotropin are among the hypothalamic hormones. The capillaries absorb certain hormones into the blood, touching the pituitary gland where they exert their effects.
(b) Thyrotropin: thyroid (TSH) gland (TSH) - Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is produced by the pituitary gland and released into the bloodstream. By binding to receptors found on cells in the thyroid gland, it regulates the synthesis of thyroid hormones, thyroxine and triiodothyronine, via the thyroid gland.
(c) Adrenal (ACTH) corticotropin - The adrenal glands are stimulated by ACTH to produce and release corticosteroid receptors into the blood.
(d) Gonadotropins: ovary, testis (LH, FSH). LH and FSH activate the ovaries of females to produce steroids. In males, LH is also called ICSH, induces testosterone production by Leydig cells and FSH stimulates the production of an androgen-binding protein (ABP) by Sertoli cells, thereby inducing spermatogenesis.
(e) Melanotropin: melanocyte (MSH) - The formation and release of melanin (a mechanism called melanogenesis) by melanocytes in the skin and hair is induced by MSH.
