Hint: Ferrous sulphate is the green vitriol which reacts with aluminium under displacement reaction.it is a blue green crystal which is odourless. It is soluble in water. It is formed when the iron fillings are reacted in the copper sulphate solution in which the iron pushes the copper as it is more reactive and then the iron sulphate is formed.

We know that the crystal of ferrous sulphate contains seven molecules of water which on heating tends to lose its water molecules thus forming an anhydrous ferrous sulphate. So on losing water it changes its colour from light green to white. When ferrous sulphate is heated it decomposes and forms a brown solid which is called as ferric oxide and sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide.
The reaction for heating of ferrous sulphate is the following:

As we can see that there is only one reactant in the above reaction which is decomposed to form three different products. So we conclude that this is a decomposition reaction. The oxidation state of iron is changing from +2 to +3 in the reaction.
