Hint: Biosphere is a global ecosystem that includes all the living organisms and the non-living materials from where the organisms derive energy for their growth and development. This energy is produced by the plants using the process of photosynthesis.
Complete answer:
The process of converting carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates (the stored form of energy) in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll is called photosynthesis. Through this process, energy from the sun is converted into chemical energy.
Photosynthesis is the main source of food on earth. It releases oxygen which is an important element for the survival of life. Without photosynthesis, there will be no oxygen on earth. The stored chemical energy in plants flows into herbivores, carnivores, predators, parasites, decomposers, and all life forms. It is a prerequisite for all higher forms on earth.
Photosynthesis fixes carbon dioxide and releases oxygen, thereby reducing the greenhouse effect and global warming. An effect by which carbon dioxide radiation from the earth’s atmosphere warms its surface. This increases the earth’s temperature resulting in the melting of ice caps causing an increase in the water level of the sea. An increase in water level is a threat to the coastal areas and the islands.
An increase in temperature also causes a loss in biodiversity due to changes in habitat conditions. Plants use up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis resulting in creating a balance in the earth’s temperature. Afforestation will further help in increasing this balance.
Note: -Photosynthesis is considered the most important process in the biosphere as without photosynthesis in plants, no food will be available for anyone as plants are the primary producer of food.
-Photosynthesis is the reverse of cellular respiration as it requires carbon dioxide and water to make sugar and oxygen whereas cellular respiration uses oxygen and sugar to release energy, carbon dioxide, and water.
-The entire structure of the plant body is built to support the process of photosynthesis. The root is designed to absorb water, leaves, and stem to perform photosynthesis. Presence of stomata to control gaseous exchange.
