Hint: Colloidal solutions are nothing but a mixture contains regularly suspended materials in a liquid. A colloid is a very tiny, small material spread throughout the liquid regularly through another material. A solution is a type of colloidal solution in which solid particles are dispersed in a liquid. The particles present in the sol are very small.
Complete step by step solution:
Generally, sol contains two different contents, those are dispersion medium and dispersed phase.
Now we have to explain the terms given in the question.
(i) Alcohol: A colloidal solution in which alcohol is the dispersion medium and solid is the dispersed phase is called alcohol. Example for alcohol is a colloidal solution of cellulose nitrate in ethyl alcohol where cellulose nitrate is the dispersed phase and ethyl alcohol is dispersion medium.
(ii) Aerosol: A colloidal solution in which gas is the dispersion medium and solid is the dispersed phase is called aerosol. Example for aerosol is fog where water droplets are dispersed phase and air is the dispersion medium.
(iii) Hydrosol: It is a colloidal solution in which the dispersion medium is water while the dispersed phase is solid. Example for hydrosol is starch sol where starch is the dispersed phase and water is the dispersion medium.
Note: Don’t be confused with the terms dispersed phase and the dispersion medium.
-Dispersion medium: The constant medium may be a gas, liquid, or solid, in which a dispersion phase is distributed equally, is called dispersion medium.
-Dispersed phase: The finely divided particles (colloidal particles), droplets distributed in the dispersion medium is called the dispersed phase
