Hint: To control pollution, a proactive role of citizens is necessary. The citizens should take measures to reduce the sources of pollution. As the major role in pollution is played by humans only because we know that there is very less pollution by natural ways, so we are the one who have to take the steps.

Complete Step by step answer: To control pollution, every citizen is expected to make the following efforts.
(1) The citizens should install proper sewage disposal systems.
(2) The citizen should dump non-biodegradable waters in low-lying areas.
(3) The citizens should install gobar gas plants in the areas where cow dung is abundantly available.
(4) The citizen should try to reduce smoke emission and treat chimney smoke for the removal of solid carbon particles.
(5) The citizen should judiciously use fertilizers, detergents and pesticides. Less harmful detergents are the ones with low-level of phosphate content.
(6) The citizen should group plants such as apple (pyrus), chir (pinus) and grapes (vitis).
These plants can metabolize gaseous nitrogen pollutants. These pollutants include nitrogen dioxide. Certain plants such as coleus, ficus (banyan) are useful as they can fix carbon monoxide.

Note: To reduce the amount of waste, the citizen should follow the process of reduce, reuse and recycle. For this purpose, the government should develop awareness programs. Through these programs, you can educate the people about the harmful effects of pollution. You can mark certain highly polluted regions as polluted zones so that the government can take proper remedial measures.
