
Explain the meaning of the terms rest and motion.

Hint: In this question; we will try to see the basic definition between the two terms that are rest and motion. This will help us to get the basic difference between the two terms. Further, we will study about the three laws of motion given by Newton, for our better understanding.

As we know that, rest and motion are relative terms. If we say in simple terms, an object or a body that changes its position is said to be in motion while the opposite action causes an object to be at rest.
Also, we can understand this as, when a body or an object is said to be at rest, it does not change its position with respect to its immediate surroundings.
Whereas, when a body or an object is said to be in motion, which means it changes its position with respect to its immediate surrounding
Therefore, we get the clear difference between the two given terms.

As we know that there are three laws of motions given by Newton. These laws of motion relate an object's motion to the forces acting on it.
First law of motion states that an object continues to be in rest or in motion in a particular direction until and unless any external force is applied on it.
Now in the second law of motion, the force on an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration. This law also gives the relation of momentum and force.
The last one is the third law of motion, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
Also, we know that force is simply any push or pull. The S.I unit of force is Newton which is represented by N. Force is given by product of mass and acceleration. Here acceleration is defined as the increase in the velocity of an object. The acceleration is measured in meters per Second Square.
