Hint: Periodic table of elements is basically the chart of the chemical elements. Modern periodic table was discovered by the scientist Mendeleev in the year of 1869 and this table was published in German journal of Chemistry. There are 118 elements in this periodic table.
Complete answer:
Periodic table is the arrangement of elements. Elements are arranged according to their increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties. This table is arranged in the forms of rows and columns where row is termed as period and column as group.
Elements are arranged from left to right and from top to bottom in the order of their increasing atomic number. There are 118 elements present in the periodic table. There are 18 groups and 7 periods in the periodic table and elements which are in the same group and have the same valence electronic configuration possess similar chemical properties. Whereas the elements which are in same periods have an increasing order of their valence electrons. This can be explained on the basis that when the energy level of an atom increases then the number of energy sublevels per energy level also increases.
Rather than these groups and columns there are also two lines present below the periodic table in these lines elements present are known as Lanthanides and actinides.
Note: Mendeleev periodic table is purely based on the atomic weight of the elements through this he was able to predict the discovery and property of the certain elements. There are only half elements known during their discovery but now 118 elements are known to us.
