Hint:Jute is a long, soft, shiny bast fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. Harvesting , reaping, retting, manufacturing –these are some basic processes by which jute is finally obtained from its plant.

Complete answer:There are a lot of processes involved in making jute fibres from jute plants .
First of all harvesting of jute plants is done. When the plants have grown up to the 8-10 feet in height in the time span of three to four months. They are harvested i.e. the plants are now cut to carry out the further processes .
The jute fibres are obtained from the stems of jute plants. After harvesting , the rest of that harvest is done. During resting of the jute plants ,the stems of these plants are tied into bunches. The bunches are kept in stagnant water for a few days. During this period , the stems rot and a gum like substance that binds the stems together get destroyed . This process is called retting.
Fibres are then separated from manually( done with the hands). After this , the fibres are dried out in the sun for 3-4 days.Jute fibres are then sent to the jute mills. These fibres are then converted into jute yarns. These yarns are then utilised for various domestic or industrial purposes.
Jute fibres are durable, strong but very rough . They have very high tensile strength . All these properties make them a multipurpose usage thing.

Note:The time duration from harvesting to finally getting finished products is of approx. six months. Since these fibres are very rough they are not used for making clothes . The various purposes for which jute is used include bedsheet, carpets, mattress etc.
