Seth Hukumchand was born in 1874 in Indore. He was a prominent leader of the Jain community. Seth Pusaji was his ancestor who established Indore under the control of “Holkar Maratha clan”. He was also known as the “Cotton Prince of India”. Hukum Chand’s mill and Rajkumar mill were established by Seth Hukum Chand in Indore. He also established a large jute mill and Iron mill at Calcutta.

He also participated in the Khadi movement of 1920 and the Swadeshi movement of 1931. He has also served as the president of “ Madhya Bharat Hindi Sahitya Samiti”. The famous “ Kach ka mandir” of Indore is built by him. He was honoured with the title “ Sir” or “ Knighthood” in the year 1919.
