Hint :The process of applying a metal coating on another piece of metal or say any conductive surface is called electroplating and this is in actual through an electro-deposition process. In electroplating, the deposited metal becomes part of the existing product with the plating/coating. We know that electric current when passes through a wire then the wire becomes hot and this is due to the heating effect of electricity.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
We know that there are an anode and a cathode and when they are connected to an external source and placed in a solution then the process of electroplating takes place. The two electrodes are made up of some metal and they create ions in the electrolyte which in turn moves to the opposite electrodes and as such conducts electricity. The metal part to be coated is the cathode and both the electrodes are immersed in an electrolytic bath that is composed of a solution. A direct current (DC) of electricity is passed through the solution, affecting the transfer of metal ions onto the cathode. So the transfer of ions from one electrode to another is because of the heating effect of the current and thus, electroplating is based on the chemical effect of electricity.
So the correct option is (B).
Note :
In the process of electroplating, the metal which is to be coated, we use the electrolytic solution of that metal. The commonly used materials are Nickel, Chromium, palladium, gold etc. The use of electroplating finds a place in our kitchen where copper and bronze utensils are electroplated. Also, electroplating is widely used in the medical industry, where medical devices are created with nickel and nickel is toxic so the nickel made devices are electroplated.
