When we throw water around or drop water up, then the drops of water form a spherical shape. This is due to the fact of surface tension of water. As we know that surface tension of water is the ability of the water to shrink to the minimum possible surface area and it makes the water retained on the surface of the substance.
This surface tension of water is the property because the molecules of water have the tendency to stick together. As we know that when a substance falls then there are some external forces of the atmosphere that resist the movement of the substance. So, to reduce this resistance the shape of water becomes spherical as the spherical shape has the least surface area possible which will come in contact with the resistance.
The cohesive forces of the molecules of water are the reason due to which they stick together as cohesive forces is the term used to define the hydrogen bonding formation in water molecules. These cohesive forces of water exist only when the molecules are the same.

When we define the intermolecular forces in bulk only then we can use the term cohesive force, and cohesive force includes hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces. If the attraction is between different molecules then it is known as adhesive forces.
