The sun in the main source of energy and hence in turns the main reason for the existence of life on earth. We know that we as humans consume only 10% of the energy emitted by the sun. This 10% of the energy is converted into other forms of energy. Plants convert this energy from sunlight during photosynthesis to make food, which we humans consume later.
Also due to the rotation and revolution of earth, we have days- nights and various seasons and climatic conditions, which we experience on the earth. The revolution of the earth around the sun also affects the ocean tides and current which help us in the process of fishing.
The distance of the earth from the sun is just enough for the appropriate climatic conditions, not too hot nor cold, to sustain life on earth.
