Hint: Mitochondria are bounded by double membranes and looks like round or oval. This membrane is made by proteins and phospholipids bilayers. This membrane is used to protect the internal organelles. It acts as the protective covering. Inner membrane is highly folded and forms cristae structure. It is found in eukaryotic cells. In living organisms it is floated freely in cytoplasm.
Complete answer:
- Mitochondria is a double membrane bound cell organelle found in all eukaryotic cells.
- Mitochondria look like a baked bean-like structure as shown in the below figure. It changes their shape and size constantly.
- Membrane space is available in between two membranes. Space is surrounded by the inner mitochondrial membrane called the matrix.
- This matrix contains the mitochondrial DNA. In a death cell or cell which contains the mitochondria without proper functioning, the network is broken and forms a bean-like structure. If the particular network reaches the limit in all directions then it varies in appearance in other cells.
- It is transported to the brain by a long fiber called an axon. The size of mitochondria is up to three micrometers. It also contains Ribosomes inside it. These mitochondria are splitted into two regions and both regions are working distinctly.
Note:
Mitochondria are available in all human cells and it is important for survival. It produces more ATP so it is called the action center of the cells. It performs the important task called apoptosis. Apoptosis is the process of signaling between cells and cell death. It generates the chemical energy which gives the energy to perform biochemical reactions.
