- DNA copying is defined as the replication of the DNA at the time of cell division. DNA copying is the process of generating 2 similar copies of the DNA from the original DNA molecule during the division of the cell.
- It occurs in all living organisms. DNA is made up of double helix structure consisting of two complementary strands.
- At the time of replication, these two complementary strands are separated.
- Replication involves multiple proteins which is known as RNA. In the eukaryotic cell, DNA replication occurs in the S phase during the cell cycle.
Importance of DNA copying:
- DNA copying is very much important in transferring genes of the parent species to the next species of the same kind. This is the only factor that defines the continuity of the existence of the species.
- In asexual reproduction, only one parent is involved so there is no other source of variation in DNA progeny from the parent. Thus, the DNA copying important in asexual reproduction.
- Through DNA copying, the stability of the population is maintained. It helps in exchange information from the parents to the offspring
