Hint: It is the process used to study the anatomy of the plant or animal body by cutting up the body. It helps to learn the internal structure and functioning of the body. It also helps to study the relation between organs and tissues.

Complete answer:
Millions of species of animals are used for the research or study of their anatomical structures. The process of selection of the species depends upon the animal to be studied and the location of the study.

The animals mainly used for the dissection are frogs, rats, lizards, C. elegans, pigs, Rabbits, snakes, turtles, fishes etc. The animals are obtained by many methods depending upon the requirement and usage like they are either caught in the wild or cultured in the laboratory.

They are also supplied to labs by the dealers as the products. The industries are also established to raise these animals for the purpose of the dissection which are supplied on the order of the labs or research facilities. The supply of these animals is done both legally as well as illegally. Some of the animals like pig, especially fetal pigs and mink are bought from the slaughter houses and poultry farms.

Note: Human cadavers are also used by medical students to study human anatomy. The human cadavers are supplied from the body donation programmes or the unclaimed bodies. In countries where there is a shortage of bodies the anatomist imports bodies from other countries by legal or illegal means.
