1.Aquaculture is the culturing of valuable flora and fauna like crustaceans, mollusks, algae, spirulina and other aquatic plants. They are cultured and maintained under controlled conditions for their growth and then they are harvested with proper safety measures.Pisciculture is mainly involved in culturing the fish varieties in large tanks or in ponds to obtain fish based commercial products as a food source.
2.It is carried out in both freshwater and saltwater. It mostly involves farming in ponds or reservoirs or tanks. Paddy fields can also be used as a source for fish farming.
3.It helps in restoration of endangered species and habitat and also prevents the escape of species which are not in that habitat. The types of fish which is cultured in pisciculture includes salmon, catfish, carp and tilapia. It also improves the over-exploitation of fisheries.

Note: Pisciculture, Aquaculture and Mariculture are types of fish farming. Aquaculture concentrates on both flora and fauna whereas pisciculture concentrates on fish and fish-based products.
