Hint:
There are two major aquatic or water biomes, the marine biome and the freshwater biome. The marine biome is formed by the ocean's saltwater. The freshwater biome is formed of freshwater such as lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers.
Complete answer:
Marine biome is the largest biome on planet Earth and covers around 70% of the Earth's surface. Freshwater biomes cover around 20% of the Earth.
Types of Marine biomes:
- Oceans - These are the five major oceans that cover the world including the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern Oceans. The ocean can be divided up into three layers or zones.
A) Sunlit or euphotic zone - This is the top layer of the ocean and it gets the most sunlight. The depth varies, but averages around 600 feet deep. The sunlight provides energy to the ocean organisms through photosynthesis.
B) Twilight or disphotic zone - The twilight zone is the middle zone in the ocean. It runs from about 600 feet deep to around 3,000 feet deep depending on how murky the water is.
C) Midnight or aphotic zone - Below 3,000 or so is the midnight zone. The water pressure is extremely high and it is very cold.
- Coral reefs - Coral reefs are small in size. Almost 25% of marine species live in the coral reefs.
- Estuaries - Estuaries are areas where rivers and streams flow into the ocean. This area where freshwater and saltwater meets.
Types of Freshwater biomes:
- Ponds and lakes - These water bodies vary in size from just a few square meters to thousands of square kilometers. Many ponds are seasonal while lakes may exist for hundreds of years.
- Streams and rivers - Water moves in one direction in these water flowing bodies. Temperature is different at the source than it is at the mouth. The water has high oxygen levels.
- Wetlands - They are standing water bodies that support aquatic plants. Marshes, swamps, and bogs are all considered wetlands.
Hence, the correct answer is option C.
Note:
Modified Jungle Edge is the rarest biome in the game and usually generates only when Jungle biomes meet Swamp Hills biomes. To get modified jungle edges to generate, a Swamp Hills biome must generate right outside the edge of the jungle.
