The Democratic Party is basically the followers of Thomas Jefferson's Democratic Republicans but their views were much of the articulated kind. It was known as the party of Southern planters and the slaveholders who wanted a change in favour of them within in American politics just for the improvement of their lifestyle than for principles. The Whig Party on the other hand was founded in 1833 by activists named Daniel Webster and Henry Clay, in opposition to the democratic party as a rejection of Jackson's presidency. The word "Whig" meant "anti-tyrant" and the ‘tyrant’ was Andrew Jackson. The Whigs were represented by three presidents but the party disbanded in 1854 .
The Free-soil Party was created by the Northern abolitionists. They were against slavery on moral grounds, but acknowledged the fact that it was permitted by the Constitution. They wanted to abolish slavery from spreading towards the Southwestern territories acquired by the government during the Mexican War.
