In About 1761 a Muslim ruler, Hyder Ali, already a leader in chief, created himself a ruler of the state of Mysore and set about expanding his sovereignty. In 1766 the East India Company enrolled the Nizam of Hyderabad against Hyder Ali in retrieval for the cession of the Northern Sarkars. But the nizam evacuated the war in 1768, abandoning the British to face Hyder Ali alone. In 1769 Hyder Ali seemed before the company’s government in Chennai and sanctioned peace based on the dignity quo.
In the second war, Hyder Ali engaged forces with the Marathas in 1780 and then again devastated Karnataka. Hyder Ali declared war against the British for failing to help him against Marathas; the tide was swivelled by the transmission of British help from Kolkata and by the death of Hyder Ali in December 1782. French assistance came too late to implicate the problem. Harmony was made with Hyder Ali’s son Tippu Sultan by the Treaty of Mangalore
The third war started in 1790 when Governor-General Lord Cornwallis lowered Tippu’s name from the list of the company’s “friends.” After two issues, Tippu was interviewed at Seringapatam and impelled to give up half his dominions.
The fourth war was begun by Governor-General Lord Mornington on the petition that Tippu was obtaining assistance from France. British troops raged Seringapatam in May 1799. Tippu died in the war and his troops were defeated.
