When Aurangzeb sat on the throne in the year 1659, he announced Shaista Khan as the Viceroy of the Deccan, and he sent him with numerous Mughal army to enforce the treaty the Mughalhas signed with the Adilshahi of Bijapur. In the month of January 1660, Shaista Khan arrived at Aurangabad and start seizing the Pune. The fort of Chakan and Kalyan and north Konkan all are captured by him after heavy fighting with the Marathas. The Marathas were then banned from entering the Pune city. Kartalab Khan and Rai Began started to assist Shaista Khan in his campaign. Later, both Kartalab Khan and Rai Began are sent by Shaista Khan to capture the Raj gad Fort.

The soldiers started shouted “Truce, truce!” and then they were encircled by the men of Shivaji.
