Pro-slavery was a philosophy that advocated the practise of slavery and defended against any institution interference. Slavery was practised predominantly in the Southern United States by the 1830s. It was considered property for African American slaves. Since slaves were black, in other words, not humans, slave owners justified them as land. As the primary source of labour, slaves were used on large plantations and small farms.
