Hint: The Khilafat movement proved that Hindus and Muslims are two separate countries because they couldn’t and cannot continue unity. Among the Indian Muslims, the Khilafat movement gave rise to political consciousness which inspired them to form an independence movement.

Complete Answer:
Khilafat Movement –
Turkey was in line with Germany during the First World War – led by Great Britain-defeated Axis forces- led by Allies. Political Muslims were critical of the Turkish (Ottomans') Empire which split it and properly removed Thracia from Turkey by its British and allies. Muslims also considered the Turkish Sultan the Caliph or religious leader of Muslims and thought it was necessary not to weaken his position on the Muslim religious places. Maulana Azad, Hakim Ajmal Khan, and Hasrat Mohani, and the country-wide agitation of Khilafat, were soon developed into a Khilafat Committee under the leadership of the Ali Brothers (Maulana Mohammed Ali and Maulana Shaukat Ali). The Khilafat All – India Conference held in Delhi in November 1919 agreed to withdraw all the cooperation of the government unless the government fulfilled its requirements.
Gandhiji participated in the Khilafat Movement –
Gandhiji has seen a chance to reconcile the Hindus and Muslims in the Khilafat Campaign. He said the congress for Hindu-Muslim unity "would be an empty phrase if the Hindus hold aloof from the Muslims when their vital interests are at stake". In November 1919, Mahatma Gandhi was elected president of the Khilafat All-India Conference. The Khilafat Board was recommended to pursue a non-cooperation policy with the Government.

Note: One big reason for the Khilafat Movement's failure was that Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar, the leader of the Khilafat Movement, was arrested and incarcerated.
It also failed in the Hijrah Campaign. When they returned, the emigrants were in a crisis.
