Hint: America was a land of Christianism. Religion has always been a part of their culture from the beginning and it was part of the law. Everything changed in 1960 , when a case regarding prayers in schools surfaced. A certain group opposed prayers that happened in the schools. This enraged almost all the religious leaders. Another kind of movement started in 1970 as the religious leaders stood against politics.

Complete answer:
As the separation of the church and state became a legal law, it affected the influence of religion in schools and through that of the youth. The church had a belief that public schooling was not an ideal thing to do and children should learn at home from parents or the church. When atheism and agnosticism became major groups, they started a movement to oppose this subject matter. This affected politics because politics and the governmental laws go hand in hand.
They demanded the prayers to be removed from schools and children should be studying in public schools. Religious leaders started another religious movement to oppose this and it also affected politics. Because of all these movements, a partition evolved between people that transferred into politics. Nowadays, Christians are mainly associated with the Republican Party, even though there are many Christians in the Democratic Party as well.

Note:The revivals and their message of hope and perfectionism extended through the 1820's and 1830's. The outcome was a confidence that encouraged social reforms of different kinds. There were political ramifications of religious fervour that would overthrow an inherited order built on hierarchy and intimidation. According to them, only free individuals could choose God freely.
