Complete answer: On 4th August 1914 Britain declared official war on Germany. The declaration of war was a result of the Germans denial to remove the troops from neutral Belgium. This happened after the expiry of the Treaty of London which guaranteed the sovereignty of Belgium. The treaty was signed by France, Prussia and the United Kingdom. This started with the ‘War Telegram’, which meant to declare hostilities against the Germans, by the Britishers. All of these events took place during the first year of world war 1. The first world war was between the Central Powers and the Allied Powers and lasted from 1914-1918.
