The foundation of the city was led by Ahmad Shah on 26th February,1411at Manek Burj. The land became the new capital on 4th March,1411 by Ahmad Shah. Sources said that through his camping near the Sabarmati river he saw a dog chasing there. The Sultan got astonished and even asked his spiritual guide the meaning of the dog chasing near the river. His spiritual guide later told him that there are unique characteristics in the land that nurtured many qualities and also this was the main reason that a dog chased there. As Sultan was in dear h for a land to build his capital and he was so impressed with the reason that he decided to build that land into his capital. After establishing his capital in Ahmedabad he gets control over all his kingdom, also he can defend and attack the south and middle rulers.

According to the old books written by the authors of that time said in honour of the four Ahmads, Ahmad Shah, his religious guide Shaikh Ahmad khattu and two more and one is Kazi Malik Ahmad named that land as Ahmedabad.
