Hint: There are shapes which are 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional. The best examples of 3-dimensional figures are cube, cuboid, cylinders, cones etc. A cuboid is a 3-D figure which can be uniquely categorized by its length, breadth and height.

where AB is the length, AC is the breadth and AE is the height.

Complete step by step answer:
We can consider that a cuboid can be formed by layering rectangular sheets on top of one another. So finding the cumulative area of all the sheets will give us the volume. So, we know that we can find the area of all the rectangular sheets by multiplying the area of one rectangular sheet with the height of the cuboid. So, we get, Volume of the cuboid as:
$\text{Volume} = \left( {Base\,Area} \right) \times \left( {Height} \right)$
The area of one sheet is $l \times b$
The volume of cuboid = area of one sheet $ \times $ height
Hence, by substituting the height and area of one sheet, we get:
$\text{Volume} = l \times b \times h$

Note: To find the volume of a cuboid, we first need to know the definition. We can extend this concept to find the volume of a cube which is just an extension of a cuboid, where $l = b = h$ . While using this formula to find the volume of cuboids, we need to remember that all the three lengths should be in the same units.
