A plough is a tool used by the farmers to loosen or turn the soil before sowing the seed or planting saplings. In ancient times the plow is used by the oxen but in modern times it is done by the tractor. It has one or more blades fixed in a type of frame and drawn over the soil. There were no wheels in the plough of ancient times. The main importance of plough is to turn over the uppermost soil so that the fresh nutrients and minerals from the soil come out and produce the high yielding and of good quality of crops. In the ancient time when domesticated or farm animals were used in the plough that was powered by humans. There was a type of plough known as moldboard plough which was used to grow crops in less fertile soil. A plough may consist of a wooden, iron, or steel frame with a blade attached which is used to cut the soil.
The crops are also cut by the plough which is called furrows. The plough cut about 12 to 25 cm of the layer of soil where the most root grows. The use of farm animals was much more efficient but in some areas, the use of plough has decreased due to the belief that it results in soil erosion. There is also a disadvantage of using plough as it reduces the organic matter such as humus and also changes the shape of the soil.
